2. Landscape and the Sublime

The sublime was explored throughout the 19th Century. It is the concept of appreciating the natural beauty of our surrounding world. It was particularly focused on impressive images of scenery. For example painters would document the land in such a way it would make it seem fascinating and powerful.

  1. According to Edmund Burke (1729-1797), the sublime was the life of the feeling and spirit depend on a large universe of the harmony. Hence, the sublime was the contemplation of powerful, terrifying nature and a combination of respect, fear. Refers the greatness of transcendent in aesthetics concern, including physical, moral, intellectual or artistic, especially with nothing else can be compared and beyond any possibility.
